In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing, StreetPass Boston shares the following message with the full StreetPass Network…

StreetPass Boston would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to StreetPass Long Island, NYC, Princeton, and everyone else who has sent words of kindness, encouragement, and support in this difficult time. And thank you to those keeping our group and our city in your thoughts/prayers today and over the coming week.

We are grateful for the safety of our friends and families; and glad to know we are in the hearts and minds of so many caring people beyond the boundaries of our city, state, and country.

To our sisters and brothers in major cities who may be fearful of attack, now reluctant to meet in large groups in the wake of this tragedy: It’s OK to be scared. But we must ask ourselves to also be courageous; fear should not control us. To disrupt our lives is what these people wanted; we cannot and must not allow it. Courage is not the absence of fear; courage is being afraid — but doing the right thing anyway.

Boston, though not always perfect, has a long history of facing hatred and oppression, yet standing proud and defiant; never yielding but often leading the charge. In light of this, StreetPass Boston WILL be holding a meetup this weekend during Boston Comic Con. Please stay tuned to our Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ channels in the next 24 hours for details.

Peace be with you all.

— Ethan Miguel Scott, Organizer, StreetPass Boston

StreetPass Network is returning to PAX East, the American East Coast’s largest gaming event, with an entirely new panel for 2013 and we want you to join the fun!

Moderated by Nicholas Oehlberg, co-founder of StreetPass Princeton, the panel on March 22 will examine the growth and successes that so many StreetPass Network groups have experienced during their first two years, giving panel attendees insight they can use to broaden their StreetPass horizons or start a StreetPass Network group in their own city.

Panelists Isaiah “TriForce” Johnson, CEO and founder of Empire Arcadia, Debbie Gluzband, co-founder of StreetPass Long Island, and Robert Oehlberg, co-founder of StreetPass Princeton, will discuss the importance of community building, offer practical solutions to common organizational challenges and review the best practices of many StreetPass Network groups. Ryan Morrison, CEO of Island Officials, will additionally provide developer insight on how StreetPass can be used to enhance a game’s experience.

The panel, StreetPass Network: Bridging Gamers Within the Community, will begin Friday, March 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center’s Wyvern Theatre. We encourage you to RSVP via the event listing at StreetPass Princeton’s Facebook page here. The first people through the door will receive a special souvenir, so be sure to arrive early!

StreetPass Network: Bridging Gamers Within the Community is a direct followup to last year’s PAX East panel, StreetPass Network: Connecting Nintendo 3DS Gamers.

Welcome to StreetPass Network, the website that’s connecting Nintendo 3DS gamers across the world!

Our mission is to link you to one of the many StreetPass groups that exist worldwide. How many are there? The answer might surprise you. We’ve counted a staggering 148 groups spread across five continents. There are 79 groups in North America, 48 groups in Europe, and another 21 spread across Australia, Asia and South America.

These amazing numbers are made all the more impressive by the fact that there was no centralized effort to form these groups. What you see here is no marketing campaign; it’s a truly grassroots effort by gamers for gamers.

So what motivated people to form these groups? And why do so many gamers join the events? It’s the great feature built into every Nintendo 3DS: StreetPass. This wireless function allows people carrying the Nintendo 3DS system to automatically swap game data with other people in range. Games use the feature for different purposes, but the data swap often unlocks new content or challenges.

And while it’s cool to see such rewards, we at StreetPass Network think it’s even cooler to use the feature as an opportunity to bring people together. We want to help people find a StreetPass group near them — or help you create one for your city.

You’ll find a variety of Resources for Gamers and Resources for Admins here in addition to our core listing of Groups and Events. There’re also some Press Clippings on display if you’re curious about how this phenomena got started, plus Twitter feeds relaying the latest bits from StreetPass DC, StreetPass NYC and StreetPass LA.

Have any comments or suggestions? Please let us know. Thanks for being part of this worldwide community! We look forward to seeing you at our Plaza Gate!
